There are a ton of benefits with Massage Therapy! just to name a few: incresed circulation, increased lymph flow and function, increased range of motion, decreased stress and anxiety. A lot of people think that massage is just a froo froo thing for the rich but it is becoming far more available to the general public and at a great cost anymore. Also, true massage therapists are required to undergo strict training including many hours of human anatomy and fingerprinting and backround checks for safety. They don't mess around with this stuff anymore. Massage has been proven in many scientifc studies to be very benificial to health in just about anyone. Including premature infants. the mortality rate drops significantly when the premee is given massage several times a day because it increases organ function among other things. Not to mention just how soothing human touch can be. If you ever need mroe proof, just go get a massage and see how you feel afterwards. there are many different modalities that can have different affects. check em out!

Does Medicaid cover massage therapy?

At this point medicare does not cover massage therapy (part A). Some of the supplemental plans (part B and C) do cover massage therapy. You would need to check with your provider to see if they cover "massage therapy provided by a licensed massage therapist." Insurance companies do not make decisions based on type of massage but perhaps who is performing it. Sometimes physical therapists' and chiropractors' massages may be covered and a massage therapist's may not be covered. But yes it depends on which part of medicare you are talking about. Supplemental medicare plans may cover massage therapy (and deep tissue massage therapy).

What is the difference between "theraputic massage therapy" and "sensual massage therapy" ?

The main difference between therapeutic massage therapy and sensual massage therapy lies in their primary focus and intent. Therapeutic massage therapy is geared towards addressing specific physical issues or ailments, such as muscle tension, pain, stiffness, or injuries. It's often performed by licensed massage therapists who have received formal training in anatomy, physiology, and various massage techniques. The goal of therapeutic massage is to promote healing, improve mobility, and alleviate discomfort through targeted manipulation of soft tissues and muscles. On the other hand, sensual massage therapy, also known as intimate massage, emphasizes relaxation, pleasure, and intimacy. While it may incorporate some of the techniques used in therapeutic massage, the primary focus is on enhancing sensual arousal and intimacy between partners. Sensual massage is often practiced in a more intimate setting, such as a home or private massage studio, and may involve elements of touch, teasing, and stimulation.

What specific training is recommended for massage therapy?

In the US, massage therapy training requirements vary from state to state. Some states require massage therapists to acquire a certain amount of hours as well as pass either the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx) or the National Certification Exam (NCE). California's CAMTC has both a 250 hour & 500 hour tier, each with it's own specific requirements and benefits. Other states may leave it up to the city to determine massage training requirements for their own individual jurisdictions. So really you should look into what your state recommends/requires in terms of massage therapy training. In more general terms, however, all massage therapy training will consist of a basic fundamental training in at least one core massage modality such as Swedish, Esalen, Shiatsu, Thai, etc., in addition to more advanced courses in the same or related modalities. Anatomy training in the bones of the skeletal system, ligaments and joints, and muscles of the body are also fundamental requirements of massage therapy training; as well as some basic Business, Ethics & Hygiene courses geared toward the massage profession.
