one reason might be a worn out water pump. another is usually a neglected cooling system that simply needs to be cleaned. The worst possibility is that on that 1.6 litre engine the mismatch of a cast iron block and an aluminum head have caused a head gasket failure.
The model year info would help.

Most likely it is the fuel level sending unit that has gone bad. This would have to be replaced.

The Taurus could overheat for several reasons. The coolant could be low, the fan might not be operating properly, or the engine could have a stuck thermostat.
