Get involved with nature as much as possible. That will help you, the individual. Society is a bulky sweater with a loose thread. Our beliefs, values, and ideals do not support logic. Our actions are not only bad for our planet, but the survival of our species. Many solutions seem obvious to me. I personally try to avoid retail stores, or buying new things when their production was unnecessary. People are "working" but have no sense of purpose or connection to their labor. The end result is millions in debt due to nonsensical material goods purchases and oceans full of "garbage" miles deep. Ghandi advocated spinning for good reasons. Self-sufficiency being the most important to me. THINK. THINK. THINK. Everything one does has consequences, whether they be positive or negative is up to us (YOU.) Would you like to pollute your body and the ocean with fast food? How about making a couple of Sandwiches, maybe with some freshly picked basil and tomatoes, and sharing them with a lonely co-worker. Save your brown bag. You really don't need a lunchbox. Most of us have what we need. We have fooled ourselves into believing our endless wants are actually needs. Share the fish!
