There are many duplicate passages in The Bible. In terms of "word for word" duplicates, the most prolific examples are in the synoptic gospels, because the authors of Matthew and Luke copied much of the material direct from Mark's gospel, often without changing any of it. Other examples occur when both Matthew and Luke rely on saying material from the hypothetical 'Q' document. The two evangelists usually copied the sayings direct from Q, although they independently devised the time, location and context in which Jesus was shown as uttering these sayings. Importantly, while the gospels may contain long passages that are duplicated wrd for word in the original Greek, this is not always true in the English translations, due to variations in translation.

The following is an example of a duplicate passage that the two evangelists copied from the 'Q' document:

Matthew 6:24 "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

Luke 16:13 "No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

Matthew has Jesus say these words to the multitude in the Sermon on the Mount, while Luke has Jesus say them to the disciples, with a few Pharisees listening.
