The negative effect was that they did not hire workers to do the job so a hand full of people did not have a job after the reaper was invented.

McCormick did NOT invent the reaper. McCormick bought the patent from the man that actually invented it. I have proof to back this up. There is a news paper article and solid silver cup with the inventor's name and date the reaper was built.

Cyrus McCormick was actually the co-inventor of the reaper. The other inventor was Jo Anderson. Jo Anderson was a slave and if often not credited for co-inventing the reaper with Cryrus McCormick (a white man). As for WHEN they did this, sometime between 1800-1830.
