The McCormick's reaper made harvesting much easier and faster.
As far as I know, the reaper was demonstrated in tests in 1831 and was patented by McCormick in 1834.
The negative effect was that they did not hire workers to do the job so a hand full of people did not have a job after the reaper was invented.
McCormick did NOT invent the reaper. McCormick bought the patent from the man that actually invented it. I have proof to back this up. There is a news paper article and solid silver cup with the inventor's name and date the reaper was built.
Cyrus McCormick was actually the co-inventor of the reaper. The other inventor was Jo Anderson. Jo Anderson was a slave and if often not credited for co-inventing the reaper with Cryrus McCormick (a white man). As for WHEN they did this, sometime between 1800-1830.
because he invented the mechanical reaper =)

The McCormick's reaper made harvesting much easier and faster.
McCormick reaper The McCormick reaper was a machine that combined many of the steps involved in harvesting crops. This had a major impact on farming. Remember that in the 1800s, most Americans worked on farms. Today, less than 2 percent of the USA. population works on farms. The McCormick reaper made farm work faster and easier, and fewer field workers were necessary. This lowered the cost of farming as well.
