There is a difference between drinking and alcohol abuse.

It has been speculated that due to its affect and mechanism of action on a young developing brain there may be adverse affects to development of intelligence, but this is just speculation. and this is an affect that will only progress due to alcohol abuse.

As with any drug, don't abuse it, research the possiable short and long term effects and make an informed decision whether or not you choose to use it. With anything in life if you abuse it you will eventually experience an unwanted side effect

Should you lower the drinking age to 18?

no you shouldn't because an 18 year old brain is not fooly developed yet, and drinking causes damage to the brain cells.Answer:"Drinking age" suggests that there is some magic time when a person acquires the maturity to drink responsibly. This is not the case. Drinking would more logically be regulated by a permit system where some folks might never get permission to drink based on their psychological profile, and others could have their permission taken away if they demonstrated a lack of proper behavior.
