∙ 11y agoAmerica wasn't "motivated", but more or less just happened into it. A 1/3 of the colonist were for the war, 1/3 were against it, and a 1/3 were neutral . That is not a majority. The people who were motivated the most were the 44 men who signed the Declaration. Considering they were the professionals and planters of the colonies that is the interesting part. Hamilton and Hancock were involved in smuggling in the colonies and it was in their economic interests that the British be controlled.
