Some Native Americans, among many other Americans today, have shown resentment towards Christopher Columbus (and any glorifications of him) simply because of the tremendous suffering experienced by Natives since Columbus discovered the New World for Europe. While the discoveries of Columbus have led to many positives, it is also undeniable that negatives have occurred, as well, particularly for the Native peoples whose cultures were destroyed as European settlers gradually took over the New World once it was discovered.
Basically, the "discovery" of America was not good news to the native Americans, considering the opression against them.
