Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" Church) and Lutherans share many common beliefs. Both groups believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and the only way that mankind can receive Salvation. Both believe that The Bible is the Word of God. Both also believe that salvation comes in and through Jesus Christ. Both believe in the communion or Lord's supper (Mormons call it 'the sacrament') and both believe in baptism - although they might differ in how these ordinances are performed.

Martin Luther was a Protestant Reformer, which means that he opened the door for Christian religions other than Roman Catholiscism to exist. Without Martin Luther, the Second Great Awakening would have never happened. The Second Great Awakening is what made Joseph Smith ask God which church to join. The answer Joseph received was to join none of them, but to wait several years and he would be given the instruction and power to restore true Christianity to the earth. This Church Joseph restored is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Whether or not the same restoration of the Church would have happened without the Second Great Awakening, only God knows.
