Doing weekly checks under the hood to ensure these fluids are at appropriate levels will save you a lot of hassle - it could even save you from a cracked engine block! Check the tires' tread every once in awhile. A good rule of thumb is to vertically insert a penny in the tread; the tires should have at least a penny's worth of remaining tread. Do for all tires, some wear differently than others. Finally, when driving, don't suddenly brake or accelerate if possible.
