It's basically when the baby has shoulders that are too wide for natural birth. The most obvious symptom is that the baby's head will come out during labor but the shoulders can't pass. It's more common with large babies.

What causes dystocia?

After birth, the bony orbits and eyes grow. If they are not the same size/shape, there can be assymmetries [differences in the two sides of the head]. Simply, dystocia is a misplacement of an eye, usually to high or too low. The brain may have problems in recognizing the difference, especially if it is changing. This can lead to double-vision, amblyopia, or dizziness. Dystocia is usually a birth defect. Dystocia in adults can be due to tumor or thyroid condition or other things: Talk with your physician for further information.
