In my opinion, everything that you dream about life like for example that your smart or more attractive than someone or that your going to be successful. Well I think that dreams are your bodies way to tell you things that you already know but that you don't generally think about. That's why sometimes when you dream something it happens the next day, so I think it is a sort of warning.

But..that was only MY opinion.

Another TheoryMy theory is that dreams are another way we can solve problems in our lives. When we sleep, our brains go into a different wavelength (or so I hear) so maybe they piece together bits of information we receive throughout the day and interpret it, make conclusions or piece together a puzzle we wouldn't be able to solve in our conscious state. The thing is, it uses universal or archaic symbols that we today might not be able to interpret correctly. For example, death in a dream may not mean negative things or the end of something; it could actually mean the beginning of something - a begining once recognised by the ancient cvilisations like Egypt, who thought that when we died, we would start a new life.

So, essentially, dreams are ways of solving our conscious problems. It's just up to us to take it on board.

It is not clear whether the question refers to psychological theories, neurological theories or popular beliefs about dreams in general. Psychologically, one must consider the theories of Sigmund Freud, who taught dogmatically that dreams represent wish-fulfillment regarding suppressed sex. He described dreams as the royal road to the unconscious mind. Carl Jung expanded dream theories to include many more aspects of life beyond sexuality. Present psycho-neurological research has identified different aspects of the physical brain as functioning differently at various stages and levels of sleep. See attached links for further information.

It depends mostly on what your dream was about, but mostly they show you things about yourself that you may not know or just don't want to exept.
