I keep my eggs in the original carton....you can be sure they have been there for awhile anyway, and nothing is going to make them fresher!...Australians don't even refrigerate their eggs.
To test an egg for freshness, place it in a container of cold water. Some eggs that are not fresh but are still good will raise up a little on one end or even stand up on one end. The eggs that are bad will float all the way off the bottom of the container, will not touch the bottom and should not be used.
Any type of chicken / hen egg works.
To hacth stick insect eggs, lay your eggs in an inclosed container (with air holes) on some dirt. Then put your eggs on your desk or somewhere warm and away from chemicals. Remember to check on your eggs every day to see if they've hatched. They will take from 6 weeks to over a year to hatch. Mine start hatching around the end of winter.
