• Being disruptive - e.g. being noisy, playing music loudly, running around, using profane language, and even overuse of perfumes/colognes.
• Wearing inappropriate clothing - i.e. you shouldn't go to the library wearing no pants, shirt, and/or shoes; you should also avoid wearing thinks like a bikini (and nothing else), being completely naked, or slopping wet.
• Leaving children unattended - The library is not a daycare, so children - especially younger children - should be accompanied by a parent/guardian/etc.
• Inappropriate usage of computers / internet - Each library has it's own set of rules and guidelines when it comes to computer usage, but most - if not all - prohibit activities such as: using the computers to conduct illegal activity, viewing sites deemed inappropriate for a library environment (e.g. pornography or other obscene material), and harrassing/threatening others via the internet.
• Abuse/harrassment of staff and patrons - including physical, sexual, and verbal abuse.
• Using drugs, drinking alcohol, and smoking - this includes being intoxicated.
• Bringing in weapons - using, displaying, and threatening with weapons is a big no-no.
• Theft - including stealing items in the library's collection, as well as non-collection items such as library equipment (e.g. barcode scanners, chairs, pens, hole puncher, etc).
• Causing damage or destruction of library property - including furnishing, items in the collection, graffiti, etc.
• Marking/damaging items in the collection - e.g. highlighting/marking pages in books or other print materials, as well as removing/tearing pages.
• Eating / Drinking - some libraries have a strict ban on all food and beverage items (which may or may not include bottled water).
• Bringing animals into the library - unless you have a guidedog, you should leave your pet at home... no matter how much your cat/dog/fish/monkey wants to come with you.
