There are many ways to decorate haunted houses.

In living creatures -

mummies

Spiders

pieces of fur, random body parts

In inanimate objects

cobwebs

dust

ripped cloth

Light

Strobe lights

red and green low colors

always dark rooms no bright ones

Music

Low monotonous music

Classical Music is good since it has no words.

Beethoven's symphonies (5th i think) are good

maniacal laughter, moans, and roars are good

Outside

ripped of window shutters

bats outside or at least the sound

scary door knocker

gravestones

if you have a cold climate plant nonevergreen trees that should lose their leaves and look dead by october

dead grass or dying, don't clean just leave it there

or wild 2 feet high grass with barely a path to get to the door

2 story house with creaky front porch with steps is great

mangled tall fence with barbed wire all around is also good

Moving parts

flying in the way bats

ghosts

project very very faint ghosts on the wall flying along the corriders so it likes like they are visiting from the otherworld

make doors open creaking on their own and the coffin open on its own.

If you can get real people to dress up and act as hauntings (only if it looks very very very very very very very very very very very realistic, ghosts and witches are safe. Anything that is in any way creaturish like with fur or multiple appendages is almost always fake looking.

Remember this is real life any tricks look different in real life then movies. They use computers and animations.
