Gaia in Greek mythology refers to mother earth. In Greek mythology it is believed that Gaia was one of the first to appear along with the air, sea and sky. Therefore she is the great mother of all from whom all the other gods descended after her unions with Ouranos, the sky, Pontos, the sea and Tartaros, the hell-pit.
Gaea is the Earth, it's literal personification, she is depicted as a women half raising out of the ground, or laying upon it. She either has no parents, emerged from Hydros - or a daughter of Hemera (Day) and Aither (Light).
Her children are many, Ouranos (Heaven), the Ourea (Mountains) and Pontos (Sea) among the first, which she bore without mate.
Her most famous offspring are the Titans whom she had with Ouranos for mate, they are: Oceanus, Coeus, Crius, Hyperion, Iapetus and Cronus the Titanides being Rhea, Themis, Phoebe, Theia, Mnemosyne and Tethys.
It was from Rhea and Cronus that the Olympian gods Zeus, Hera, Demeter, Poseidon, Hestia, and Hades were born from.
Gaea was also mother of the three Cyclops (Arges, Steropes, and Brontes) and three Hekatonkheires (Gyges, Cottus, and Briareus) with Ouranos.
Gaia's or Gaea's mate is Uranus, who she gave birth too!
