A phone card is purchased with a certain amount of minutes. These minutes can be used to make long-distance calls of that time amount. They can be used on any home phone or pay phone, just dial the number on the card and enter the pin number. You can then dial whomever you wish to call and those minutes you spend talking will be deducted from that card. Any minutes remaining can be used at a later time.
