Actually there are 11 systems within your body:

  • Cardiovascular system -- The cardiovascular system is responsible for moving blood through the various parts of your body. There is two parts to this system, which are the heart, veins and arteries, and blood. The heart is in the form of a muscle, and is responsible for pumping blood to the various portions of the upper and lower bodies. The veins carry deoxygenated blood to the heart to get more oxygen, and the arteries pump oxygenated blood to the various portions of the body. The blood system involves 3 blood types ABO and also three types of blood cells which are white, red, and platelets.
  • Digestive System -- this system is responsible for providing nutrients to all of the different organs within the body, and then sending the wastes down to the rectum to be removed.
  • Endocrine System -- this system is responsible for providing hormones to various target cells. There are parts within the brain such as the pituitary and the hypothalamus, and the hormones they produce target different cells such as those in the thyroid, thymus, pancreas, kidneys and so on. There are two types of hormones, ones that are exocrine and endocrine. Exocrine are the ones that are immediately put into the blood system such as those in gastric juices. Then you get the endocrine ones which go through vessels.
  • Integumentary System -- this system is responsible for providing protection and insulation and retaining water etc. The parts within this system is the hair, nails, skins, etc.
  • Lymphatic System-- this system is involves the "infantry" of your body. It is the system that produces antibodies which will clean up your body when you come in contact with a virus or bacteria.
  • Musculoskeletal System -- this system is responsible for movement and providing structure. Within this body system you get bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments.
  • Nervous System -- this system is the opposite of that of the endocrine system. This is a much more rapid system, as nerve impulses are regularly sent to produce certain actions. There are two different systems within the nervous system, the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), and the peripheral nervous system (nerves and branches from spine).
  • Reproductive System -- this system is responsible for forming gametes and produces off springs.
  • Respiratory System -- this system is responsible for gas exchange. It will assist with getting waste products such as carbon dioxide out, and then process other valuable products for use within the body.
  • Sensory System -- this will help you do the six senses with touch, hearing, seeing, taste, etc. This system includes the eyes, ears, tongue etc.
  • Urinary System -- this is responsible for the liquid wastes within the body and reabsorption of valuable products, and then excretion of wastes.
These are just basic descriptions of each of the above systems.
