"Bartholdi incorporated many symbolic features to his colossus. There are 25 windows in the crown representing gemstones found on the earth and the heaven's rays shining over the world. The seven rays of the Statue's crown represent the seven seas and continents of the world. The tablet which the Statue holds in her left hand reads (in Roman numerals) "July 4th, 1776." the date of American Independence."
Source: http://www.nps.gov/stli/historyculture/history-continued.htm == There is no list of the "gemstones" in the crown of the Statue of Liberty. Actually the crown is a diadem and it was always assumed that all such headpieces were adorned with "gemstones". It is fascinating to observe that these "gemstones" are windows and through them Liberty's people can be seen. Thus it can be safely said that Liberty's "gems" are her people.
The Statue of Liberty has 25 windows (found in the crown at the top of the statue) which are meant to represent 25 different gemstones found on earth. The statue has several other symbolic features, such as the crown's rays, which represent the seven seas and continents.
