∙ 16y agoCosta Rica main city is for sure San Jose, the capital. The next three main cities are Heredia, Cartagoa and Alajuela. However, these four cities are in the Central Valley. The Central Valley has about 1.25 million habitants and the Central Valley itself may be considered a city. As evidence of this argument, our main airport, Juan Santamaria (SJO) is regarded as San Jose Airport... but it is located in Alajuela (10 min away from San Jose downtown)

Jaco and Tamarindo are probably the other two.
Jaco and Tamarindo are by far the most developed beach towns and both are located on the Pacific Coast.
