The book Exodus was written by Moses and it is about him and the Israelites journey through the desert.

Instead, the first significant word of the book is used as a title. Therefore, the second book of the Bible is called Shemot (שמות), which means "names". If you look at Exodus 1:1, the first significant word is "Names."
The book was written somewhere between Egypt and Canaan, most likely in the Kadesh-Barnea area where the Israelites camped for a lengthy period.
