The US government can be considered an organization, as it is made up of many parts operating for a certain purpose. However, much of the US government is further subdivided into other organizations such as Congress, Judicial Branch, and the Executive Branch.

In the US Federal government there are to parts to the legislative branch. One is the House of Representatives and the other part is the Senate. The people elected to these branches of government which is called the legislative branch are the people voted in by the people of their states to pass on bills to make into laws. Therefore, a legislator is so defined. Other parts of the US, the 50 states have a similar set up to handle matters that effect the states we are speaking of. In the 50 states there are political subdivisions that also have legislators.
