The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America reads:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
So, the five basic principles established by this amendment would be:
1. The Freedom of Religion
2. The Freedom of Speech
3. The Freedom of the Press
4. The Right of Assembly (to protest and organize)
5. The right to call upon the government to settle a grievance, wrong, or hardship suffered.
