Anabaptist is a term that was given to those men and women who were baptized at birth or baptized into a church, and when they bagan to study The Bible for themselves and learned that the Bible does not teach salvation through baptism but that salvation is through accepting and believing in Jesus Christ as their savior, and His blood atonement for their sins on the cross, they received Jesus, through faith, and learned that the Bible actually teaches that baptism is to follow salvation as an act of obedience to Christ and an outward showing of what took place in salvation through faith and representing the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Thus the term Anabaptist was applied to them because "Ana" means "re" or "to do again"... "Rebaptized". Though this is what the Bible clearly teaches, these men and women were often persecuted for their beliefs and even put to death by the Catholic church and even protestants like John Calvin and state churches.Romans 10:9-10, 13 That ih thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.... For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved... Acts 8:36-38 says And as they were on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
