Air blisters or Windpuffs in newly caponized birds are caused by rupturing of the air sacs during caponization, infection and or over use of limbs soon after the operation. Caponized birds should be housed in a clean, dust free area with no roosts and only dust free straw for bedding. Feed should be a wet MASH and nothing scattered on the floor to encourage scratching about for food. A water soluble tonic with antibiotic and when the windpuff is large, releasing the air with use of a needle to puncture the bubbled area. Aspiration of the air will releave the birds discomfort and this may need to be done more than once.
