What are the Drawbacks for the life of the habitants?

Hard living. The climate was getting colder, not warmer, making growing crops harder and harder. Things didn't improve after France, their mother country abandoned them after losing the seven year war. They had to work hard just to get by, not much money for education, or other ways to advancement. The lack of education also made if difficult to advance in an English dominated ruling class.
