The Druze are a monotheistic community. They emerged from the Ismailism school. The Druze religion has five pillars : Faith, Prayer, Pilgrimage, Fasting and Charity.

Syria is roughly 80% Sunni. There are some Shiites, primarily Ismailis, but most of the remaining 20% is made of other religious groups like the ruling Alawites, Druze, and Christians. (Alawites and Druze are sometimes considered to be forms of Shiite Islam and sometimes -- properly -- considered to be Post-Islamic Religions that jumped off from Shiite Islam.)
It depends on who you ask. Most Druze and most typical Muslims would agree that Druze and Islam are separate religions. Druze is clearly an offshoot of Islam, but goes far enough to be a separate faith. (This would be similar to how most Jews see Messianic Judaism, but not the other way around.) However, anthropologists who classify religion hold that Druze is not significantly different enough from Islam to be a unique faith. Since most Druze values and beliefs are secret, it is highly unlikely that we will ever get a satisfactory answer. As for myself, if both Islam and Druze can agree that the two religions are distinct, I see no point arguing with them.
Most Syrians are Sunni Muslims, however the government itself is controlled under a Shiite Alawite president named Bashar al-Assad, which consists as a religious minority. Besides Muslims, Syria also have a sizable Christian and Druze minorities as well.
The Druze religion formed in the Middle East around the 11th Century. Most Druzes live in Lebanon, Syria, Israel, and Jordan. If we were to take note of all the available figures then the Druze population is nearly one million with 40%-50% living in Syria, 30%-40% in Lebanon, 6%-7% in Israel, and 1%-2% in Jordan. In the U.S. there are approximately 20,000 Druzes.
Syria is located in the continent of Asia.
I do not have a specific number, but there are 102 000 druze in Israel. According to wikipedia, 83% of Druze males serve in the Israeli army. This is a higher number than jewish Israelis, so proportionally, there are more druze than jews in the IDF. The druze used to have it's own Druze unit, and often not reach high ranks like generals. Today, Druze soldiers are found in all units, including elite units and ranks such as major general. Again, the average druze rank is higher than the jewish rank in the Israeli army.
Druze are a Muslim sect.
If you meant to ask "How does Israel's location increase its vulnerability in the region?", please see the Related Question below. Israel's location does make Judaism more vulnerable in the sense that more and more Jews are coming into an area where neighboring countries wish to exterminate them. On the flip side, the existence of Israel has helped to preserve Jewish communities that were being persecuted in their countries of residence by giving them somewhere to flee to. Probably the religious group second to the Jews that Israel has made vulnerable are the Druze. Since there are large Druze communities in Israel, Lebanon, and Syria, and the Israeli Druze have shown incredible loyalty to Israel, Druze communities in Lebanon and Syria are increasingly being forced to demonstrate loyalty to those states to not be seen as "Israel sympathizers" or fifth columns.
