Israel's location does make Judaism more vulnerable in the sense that more and more Jews are coming into an area where neighboring countries wish to exterminate them. On the flip side, the existence of Israel has helped to preserve Jewish communities that were being persecuted in their countries of residence by giving them somewhere to flee to. Probably the religious group second to the Jews that Israel has made vulnerable are the Druze. Since there are large Druze communities in Israel, Lebanon, and Syria, and the Israeli Druze have shown incredible loyalty to Israel, Druze communities in Lebanon and Syria are increasingly being forced to demonstrate loyalty to those states to not be seen as "Israel sympathizers" or fifth columns.
