They're the figment of a advertising agent's imagination, trying to hype private sales. No Kennedy halves have ever been "lost". This is an attempt to play off the fact that in some recent years halves have only been struck for purchase by collectors, so they're "lost" to circulation.

JFK halves from 1965 to 1969 are 40% silver. At $17/oz they contain around $3 worth of metal.
1964 halves are 90% silver and contain about $7 of silver.
1971 and later have no silver at all and are worth 50 cents.
