The pro's of using chloral floral carbons far out the con's which as far as my research tells me there are none. Cfc's are a man-made substance used in sterilizing medical utensils, refrigerants, fire retardants, and most commonly known for aerosol propellants. They are a cheap and effective chemical that is used in these areas to help save and protect lives. This chemical is inert which means that it is non-reactive, is not combustible, harmless to bio-organisms, safe all around. Recently a treaty was made called the 'Montreal protocol' this states that no-one will be able to make any more cfc's based on a erroneous claim that cfc's deplete the ozone. This is wrong on several points, first they assume that ozone protects us from the sun's radiation, ozone is a by-product from other molecules diffusing radiation; the ozone doesn't protect us it merely shows where the sun's radiation hits the earth. Once a year for a few weeks there is an updraft current in Antarctica where some cfc molecules can rise through the atmosphere allowing the sun's radiation to hit then. This breaks apart the cfc molecule releasing the Chlorine atom which then breaks apart the ozone molecules. The amount of cfc in the atmosphere is insignificantly small in the ppt (parts per trillion). The act of breaking apart the cfc actually diffuses the sun's radiation, so far it is still helping, and remember that ozone doesn't protect us (it is just a by-product). What the news hype media doesn't tell you is that near Antarctica and all around the world there are volcanoes that put out tons of Chlorine everyday, far more than is even comparable to the few cfc's that make it up the current. By taking away cfc's we end up losing more lives to unclean medical equipment, less efficient fire retardants, and poor refrigeration, and simply because poor countries can't afford the more expensive and less efficient substitute. The whole purpose of taking them out was to 'save lives' where first the risk is unfounded, and second it does the opposite.
