• Also, Mexico has a large number of international trade agreements, allowing it to have a large export-oriented economy.
• Finally, Mexico has a large population (113 million) allowing it to have an important - although still developing - economy labeled as an "emerging market".

Disadvantages:

• Geography and climate often hinder economic development efforts. For example, the Chihuahuan desert is the result of a 'rain shadow' induced by the Sierra Madre Occidental. This has limited agriculture to small fertile pockets within Mexico, which cover only 12-17% of Mexico's territory.
