you work off hours, your workload is very high. you are frequently caught between the dr. and the patient. you have to know enough to question incorrect dr. orders and get the dr. to make changes or you are held responsible. you have to cover if a colleague does not report to work causing you to work 16 hours. sometimes you have to 'float' to areas that you have no experience in. you have to work with incompetet drs. and egotistical drs. you have to watch people and sometimes babies /children die. you have to 'cover' for a dr's oversight or worse. you have to care for a wide array of patient personalities. now in the hspital are the sickest patients then they are sent home. many times you have to prioritize what you will get done and do the best you can. you have to multi-task all the time.in spite of all this, i am very glad i am a nurse.

Advantages: you get to help people every day; there will always be a need for this field; you make a difference; good pay; great benefits.

Disadvantages: The work can be overwhelming at times; You may be expected to work long shifts and be available on call; Can be very time consuming and take away from time you would wish to spend with your family.
