What are some good and bad things about oil energy?

There are many advantages and disadvantages of using oil as an energy source. Namely, most people own cars that are already equipped to use oil, making it the easiest source of energy to acquire for most people. The problem is that oil resources are finite and they cause pollution problems.

Positive:

Oil is used to help power our transportation supplies, for example, cars , motorcycles and buses are powered by oil by burning it. By the way oil is a type of gas that is made out of dead dinosaurs and plants that kind of got pushed into the ground by the weather millions and millions of years ago, that's why we have to mine oil. Also you can use oil for heating homes.

Negative:

Even though oil helps to get us through places where does it all go when it is done being burnt by our transportation supplies? Well oil came from the ground I know you see that grayish brownish stuff that comes out of cars and buses and trucks, well that's burnt oil and all that burnt oil [gas] floats all the way to our atmosphere. So when that dirty stuff called gas gets in our atmosphere it destroys our ozone layer. So think about it what is the main reason why people get LUNG CANCER! Oh and oil is a fossil fuel that's part of the reason the climate is changing and the South and north poles are getting smaller and the OCEANS ARE RISING!

You could argue the following for Renewable energy sources. Positives: Once a site is set up usually the energy is free minusing maintenance costs. The site is carbon friendly (no carbon produced) You will never run out of energy to power homes etc. Negatives: Costs usually alot more than a non renewable energy source eg coal and oil. The amount of power produced is usually less than that produced in non renewable energy sources eg a wind farm takes a HUGE amount of space to produced signficant energy. This leads to another problem wind farms are eye sores and are visually polluting. Which is a definite no no.

Oil is useful as a fuel in industry, transport and the generation of electricity. It has, however, a very serious disadvantage because its burning, like coal and natural gas, releases the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, that is causing global warming and climate change.

Oil should be reserved for making plastic, and we should use renewable energy from wind, solar and water for our power supplies.
