Well water is direct ground water, that does not under go any chemical filter before it consumed. However, well water should ALWAYS be lab tested before human consumption. It is NOT always pure and often needs filters of different kinds to be fit for human use.

Just because ground water is found at a well site does not mean it can be used for drinking and bathing.

There are no particular advantages. Most people who use well water do so because they are out of range of city water. Well water can be relatively clean , but is not always so. It should ALWAYS be lab tested before human consumption, and may need filters to remove certain minerals. Everything that is in the ground can be in well water in minute quantities. Minerals such as iron and manganese are often in well water and can make the water smelly and distasteful.
