Operational Research (as it was originally called and is still known by that name in Europe) is a very broad canvas and the applications are exceptionally varied. O.R. is, in a nutshell, using analytical techniques to improve decision making, so any data that the Industrial Engineering / Software Engineering organisations could be used to improve the organisations' operational processes.
