The Apache may be the best "attack" helicopter but the Navy MH 60 S is the most diverse platform and best utility helicopter in the world.
America's first designed & built attack helicopter was the AH-1 Cobra fielded in the Vietnam War. Note: Any chopper can be called an attack helicopter if its armed for the job. Consequently the terms "designed & built" specifically as a gunship (attack helicopter).
It's first flight was on January 4th, 1996 - and the US Air Force had big plans for it - but it's program and funding was cancelled in 2004. Only 2 were produced by Boeing/Sikorsky.
