Ginger is low in calories, but is very rich source of many essential nutrients and vitamins such as pyridoxine (vitamin B6) and pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) that are essential for optimum health. It also contains minerals like potassium, manganese, copper, and magnesium. Ginger has anti-inflammatory, anti-gas, and anti-microbial properties. It's used to reduce nausea caused by motion sickness or pregnancy, and may help relieve migraine headaches. The root contains many health-benefiting essential oils such as gingerol, zingerone, and shogaol, among others. Gingerols help improve the intestinal motility and have anti-inflammatory, painkiller (analgesic), nerve soothing, fever-reducing, as well as anti-bacterial properties. Zingerone, which gives pungent character to the ginger root, has been found to be effective against E.coli-induced diarrhea, especially in children. Shoagaol is showing promise in inhibiting breast, ovarian, and colorectal cancers.

There is a wide range of benefits for using ginger as spice or using as substitute to tea such as nausea, digestive problems, blood circulation, menstruation, irritable loose bowel motion, Arthritis and more. Ginger is also known to have the ability to calm an upset stomach and to promote the flow of bile. Stomach cramps can be eased and circulation can also be improved. Ginger supports a healthy cardiovascular system by making platelets less sticky which in turn reduces circulatory problems.

Ginger oil used for massage can help relieve painful arthritis due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger is often included in many herbal decongestants and can help to minimize the symptoms of respiratory conditions, colds and Allergies.

With all the benefits of ginger and continuing research, the ginger root is fast becoming a very popular medicinal herb.

Ans: Ahhh...interesting question...adding ginger(which is alkaline) to your food intake has benefits of relieving for instance..upset stomach due to motion sickness eg. Ginger Ale, now as far as changing the bodys pH(acid/alkaline) balance..the problem becomes how does it get past the highly regulated blood-pH....well from the intestine the body picks up a acidics and buffers them with alkalines where possible...for transport to the cells(metabolics) .... you are what you eat...the more veggies and fruits you eat the less impact there is from acidics. The argument then is whether or not ginger has a positive effect on body metabolics via pH ....more than likely yes.
