∙ 9y agoVirtualization is running a computer OS (windows, Linux, MAC) on a computer, but with a difference. The OS is running as a virtual machine.
As a virtual machine, you can put several servers onto a single piece of hardware. The days of racks and racks of computers in the server room is over. So, running virtualized systems allows space, power and cost savings over having several physical systems -- You can literally have one server and see many servers.
Another advantage is that in virtualization, you can move a virtual machine from one physical machine to another, maybe when you upgrade existing physical hardware.
The KEY benefit is physical space savings in your computer room, less electricity used, Less hardware - This is all cost savings.
