Laptops are ultra portable, and have all the features of a Desktop except for the Mouse and Keyboard. Many people are so used to this though they do not notice it anymore. Anywhere I go I can sit down and Surf the web, get directions, answer email, watch a movie, Work Online or from home or Just goof off! Desktops do not offer that.
The benefits of owning a laptop versus a desktop is the mobility. With a laptop you can take it anywhere with you, it's easy to transport from point A to B. They are a lot more versatile and in some cases you can do more with them than a regular desktop, such as ease with wireless networking.
Not so long ago computer users could easily distinguish between limited, yet highly mobile laptop computers versus robust, yet stationary desktop PCs. Today, laptops are commonly called "desktop replacements" because these machines can match or even outperform many desktop PCs. The hardware in laptops and desktops is similar, including the processor, RAM and hard drive. Operating systems, such as Windows and Mac OS X, don't perform any differently between the two machines. In fact, laptops are outselling desktop PCs, but the tablet PC is upsetting this trend.
