The benefits completely depends upon what your product is. If you are building a McDonalds toy then will probably get very little benefit from testing. They are cheap toys and if they break after an hour, you really don't lose anything. If you are making a video game and you don't test your code, nobody will buy it because the game won't be any good. If you are building a pacemaker and you don't test it, the patient who receives it could die. So testing can be a waste of money or could literally save sometimes life.
