Beginner Books was created in 1958.

Knitty Gitty (by Aneeta Patel), Knit Step by Step (by Vikki Haffenden and Frederica Patmore), How to Knit (by Debbie Biss) are some of the knitting patterns books best for a beginner.
No. If she was she probably would have used more Wiccan traditions for the Harry Potter books.
There are many books for cross stitch patterns level beginner to intermediate. Some interesting titles are "The ABC's of Cross Stitch", "Teach Me to Stitch" and "Cross Stitch for Beginners".
Your best bet is to try the local new age/ pagan/ wiccan stores in your local area. Most will sell magickal/ esoteric books and materials.
"Programming for the Absolute Beginner," and "Beginning Programming For Dummies" are two excellent choices for those starting out. They have received good reviews from customers at Amazon.com.
You can join anytime! Technically as long as you worship the God and the Goddess and practice the craft you are Wiccan. First off though it would be helpful to you if you buy a beginner Wiccan book. It's a great help, it tells you about initiation (a more formal way to become Wiccan), it gives you a list of basic supplies you need, tells you how to arrange your alter properly, and also gives you basic spells for beginners. Be sure to look at a local bookstores website and read descriptions of the books - or maybe try amazon.com.
