Depends on what YOU like best. Try different brands out, some you can feel more than others, and others you can't feel at all. Personally I like playtex sports since you can't feel them AT ALL, but that's just my opinion.

It is best to use cotton tampons.

Many brands of tampons like Tampax, Playtex, or Kotex are made from a material called rayon - this is agressively absorbent and rough so can cause increased irritation and damage to vaginal tissues, which in turn increases TSS risks. Rayon tampons are also bleached and heavily chemically treated, tampon manufacturers are self-regulated so not even the FDA know what ingredients are used or the potential risks.

Cotton tampons like Cottons, Natracare, or Emerita are made from 100% cotton which is softer and less damaging to vaginal tissues, as well as having lower fibre loss and not being as hospitable to bacteria as rayon. Cotton tampons are not bleached or chemically treated so there is a far lower risk of TSS, vaginal infections, and no harmful chemicals to worry about, including no risk from dioxin.

Hypo-allergenic cotton tamponsBrands; Cottons, Natracare, Maxim or Seventh Generation
Unlike other tampons which are made from chemically treated bleached rayon, cotton tampons are made from 100% cotton without any sort of bleaching and completely hypo-allergenic. Cotton tampons pose lower risks of TSS, vaginal infections and irritation so the least likely to cause problems for new users, cotton also has lower friction than rayon.
Always use lowest absorbency. This is important to reduce risk of TSS as well as to prevent discomfort through friction and the drying effect of using too high an absorbency. Use lowest absorbency and if it leaks within 1-2 hours consider using a higher absorbency, but if the tampon is dry or brown in places after 4-6 hours use a lower absorbency or switch back to using liners/pads.

Non-applicator.Applicator tampons are designed to reduce contact between the users fingers and their genitals or menstrual flow, although some people find applicator tampons easier non-applicator are best to start with. Non-applicator are simpler, have rounder tips, and most importantly allow a user to feel for resistance so they can more easily guide the tampon into place.

There really isn't a best brand of panty liners, its all about choice, they have many with wings, without, different sticky bits, different sizes, shapes, absorbancys, gels, scents... If you go to your local Sexual Health Clinic they may have 'Starter Packs', we had these given in school and they contain the main brands, one of each for you to try. You can also speak with your pharamacist or any women for that matter and im sure they would be happy to explain the differences between the brands in your country

In England:- Personally I prefer Always as panty liners when the flow is very light and Tampax as it gets heavier, purely its what I feel most comfortable with.

There are a few types of tampons you can use:

  • Commercial tampons e.g. Tampax.
  • Organic tampons e.g. Emerita.
  • Soft tampons e.g. Beppy.
  • Sponge tampons e.g. J&P.
  • Cloth tampons.

Most women will use conventional tampons such as commercial tampons or organic tampons, but it is best to avoid commercial tampons because they're made from rayon which is more favourable to bacterial growth and cause more damage vaginal tissues. Organic tampons are a good tampon option as they're made from 100% cotton which is safer than rayon, also organic tampons aren't chemically treated or bleached like rayon tampons so less irritating and no long-term dioxin risks.

Organic tampon brands: Emerita, Cottons, Natracare, Maxim, Veeda, and Seventh Generation.

Always use lowest absorbency for your flow: start with lowest absorbency, if it leaks within 1-2 hours use next absorbency up, but if not saturated in blood after 4-6 hours use lower absorbency or pads. It's best to use non-applicator too as they're simpler, have rounder tips, give better control for easier insertion, also it means less bulk to carry around and less waste to leave behind.

This is down to personal preference, which brand you find to be best.

Brand loyalty is a big thing when it comes to tampons, once a woman chooses a brand she is more likely to stick with that one brand throughout her life, so you should take some time learning about how different tampons are made and don't be scared to try something new every now and again.

Ideally it's best to avoid rayon tampons such as Tampax, Playtex, and Kotex as these pose higher risks of Toxic shock syndrome, vaginal infections, also contain chemical ingredients which may cause irritation and pose long-term health risks. Opt for organic cotton tampons such as Emerita, Natracare, and Cottons which are made from 100% organic cotton so safer than rayon tampons.

What you consider to be the 'best' tampon is down to personal preference.

It's a good idea to avoid rayon tampons such as Tampax, Playtex, and Kotex - rayon tampons pose far higher risk of toxic shock syndrome, vaginal infections, increased craps, irritation, and contain potentially harmful substances such as dioxin. It's best to use organic cotton tampons such as Cottons, Emerita, and Natracare - cotton tampons pose far lower health risks and are more comfortable. You may also prefer to use cloth tampons, sponge tampons, or soft tampons.
