Basically natural soil erosion occurs from heavy rains, In the Philippines however forests have been cleared to make way for agriculture. The problem is that these forest were originally located on slopes and the trees provided resistance for the rain, now the slope provide a channel for rain and trees are no longer there to resist the rain

Some of the causes are due to overfarming. Previously, the farming in Kenya was Nomadic, with areas being left to replenish nutrients between harvests. Now, the land is farmed almost continuously (only 10% of the land in Kenya is fertile) as the population sky-rockets (Kenya's population is the fastest-growing in the world, as far as I know). Unfortunately, most of this fertile land is used to farm cash crops like tea and coffee, leaving less land for famers and people alike. Because the soil is farmed continuously, it becomes exhausted and is blown away when the winds come. Another reason is because of wood. As wood is the only fuel source for a lot of people in Kenya, people cut down trees that slow down the winds and keep the soil together. And that's pretty much all I know on the matter.stupid
