In Greek mythology, there was a party held, and someone threw out a golden apple labeled "To the Fairest Maiden". All of the maidens were fighting and trying to decide amongst themselves. There was a Trojan prince, Paris, who was decided as the judge of who should receive this prize. Well, it was narrowed down to Aphrodite, Hera, and Pallas Athena. Each promised him something wonderful in exchange for the apple. But, Aphrodite coaxed him the best, by promising him that he should have the most beuatiful woman in the whole world, which was Helen. Aphrodite received the apple. Hera and Pallas Athena, in their wrath, turned against Paris. One man in power already had Helen as his own, and because Paris took her from him, the Trojan war was started. It lasted, I believe for nine or ten years.

In the end, I don't think Paris ever got Helen, not for long, at least. That is the best I have to offer. Most of this I am absolutely positive is true ( since I read a 465-page book on Mythology in great detail!!!)

An historical view:

The stories we have come from hundreds of versions of songs sung by the bards over hundreds of years. Nothing is certain, and the stories we have have traces of five centurues of story-telling which varies over five centuries.

The best we can say is that the Achaians (Greeks) went on a ten year looting expedition of Asia Minor and the Islands in the 12th Century BCE. At the end of it they took the richest prize - Troy which was destroyed and the people taken as slaves.
