Fragile-x is carried on the x-gene only. Men have XY chromosones and women XX. Men pass on the x-gene to all their daughters and the y-gene to all their sons. Women pass on either of their x-genes to sons and daughters.

The spouse has no effect on the transmission of the faulty gene at all. Their x and/or y genes simply get combined.

So, a male Fragile-x carrier has 100% chance of passing it his daughters and 0% chance to his sons.

A female carrier has 50% chance of passing it to her daughters and 50% chance to her sons.

What is the chances of a person passing coffin lowry syndrome to there offspring?

Coffin-Lowry syndrome is an x-linked dominant condition which means it can only be passed on by a female. There are no known instances of a man passing CLS on to offspring. If the mother has CLS or is a CLS carrier, then there is a 50/50 chance of passing on the condition to her offspring. CLS can also occur as a spontaneous mutation, where there is no family history of the condition.

What are the chances of a person with marfan syndrome passing it to their offspring?

Have a 50% chance of passing it on to there offspring. This is called an autosomal dominant gene. What that means is, considering each human has TWO sets of chromosomes (1 from mom, 1 from dad), it takes only ONE copy of the mutated gene being passed on for the child to inherit the syndrome. Because for the conception of each child there is a chance of passing one or the other gene on, there is a 1 in 2 or 50% chance of giving the child Marfan Syndrome.

What is the inheritance pattern to Marfan Syndrome?

Marfan syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder. An affected person has a 50% chance of passing it on to each offspring, regardless of gender.

Why can't a person affected with HIV reproduce?

They can reproduce but in doing so there is a danger of passing the HIV virus on to the partner they are reproducing with and also passing the infection on to the children they make. Obviously it is a couples choice but many feel that the do not want to expose their partners/offspring to this risk.

Who was the first person to show how traits are passed from parents to offspring?

Gregor Mendel is basically known for being the founder of genetics through testing with peas and noticing traits passing down.

What is the passing trait from only parent to offspring?

its Heredity is the study of traits passed down from parents to offspring influenced by DNA. Heredity is a process in which a person gets some of the physical and mental qualities of his or her parents. The biological process whereby genetic factors are transmitted from one generation to the next.

What hereditary factors were described by Mendel?

The first person to put heredity to the test was Gregor Mendel, who systematically tracked dominant and recessive traits in his famous pea plants. Heredity is the passing of traits from parents to their offspring. No one knew about genes at the time. He described what he saw which we call traits.

Why do hospital sinks generally have sinks that have elbow operated taps?

Because it reduces the chances of passing on germs from one person to another. If you've just washed your hands prior to performing an operation - the last thing you want is to re-contaminate your skin with germs from another person.
