The Key Characteristics of a Patriot depend on what kind of Patriot you are referring too, as there are two types (as defined by me):

1. National Patriot- the oldest and most understood form of patriot, is the one that simply values their country and government. Characteristics include: a love for their country and governance, a determination to serve their country's interests (either by being a government leader, soldier, volunteer, activist, or whathaveyou), a favorable view of their country over other nations, and often a willingness to die for their country's interests.

2. American Patriot or Freedom Patriot, or "Statesman"- this form of patriot differs from the above in that, instead of their country and government, they value Individual Freedom. Their Characteristics include: a love of Freedom, of country, and of their Fellow Man, a determination to Protect their freedom, and that of their fellow men's in whatever ways possible (often by voting, or being a soldier), a determination to serve the Cause of Freedom wherever it may present itself (most often in their own country, particularly by being a Soldier, government leader, volunteer, or activist), a respect for Law but a greater respect of Man, and often a willingness to pledge their "Lives, Fortunes and Sacred Honor" for the cause of promoting and protecting freedom and liberty, particularly in their own Country.
