The villain, like every other character in a story, can have any characteristics. Not all villains know they are villains. Some, like real people, believe they are acting toward the greater good. It is only by comparison to the actions of others that their behavior becomes apparently evil.

Sometime, like the reluctant hero, the villain becomes such by circumstance and not so much decision or action.

Literature is not all 1940's westerns, where everyone is identified by the color of his hat. Nor is all literature a comic book where the villain acts in a greedy and avaricious manner.

A villain is typically characterized by their malicious intent, lack of empathy, and willingness to harm others for personal gain. They often exhibit traits such as manipulation, deceit, and a disregard for moral principles. Villains may also possess a charismatic or captivating demeanor that can be used to persuade or control others.
