Well I guess any asteroid could hit Earth.
For a complete list of NEO - see related link .
There are several hundred asteroids that could hit Earth, most of them have not been named, or even discovered yet.
The brightest asteroid when viewed from Earth is Vesta, or (4) Vesta (the 4 indicates it was the fourth asteroid to be discovered.) Vesta is bright because it's very large (the second largest asteroid), reflective, and orbits fairly close to us near the inner edge of the asteroid belt. Vesta is so bright that sometimes, under a very dark sky with perfect eyesight, it can just be made out with the naked eye.
We should learn more about Vesta when the Dawn probe arrives there in 2011. Not long to go now!
That varies with their orbits. Some of them get very close indeed! For example, on Friday, April 13, 2029, the asteroid Apophis will come within about 20,000 miles of the Earth; closer even than communications satellites! Fortunately, it will miss.
In dicussing asteroids, NEO stands for Near-Earth Object. NEOs are asteroids whose orbits come close to or cross Earth's. This creates a potential hazard for a collision.
Sometimes. We call them "asteroids" when we see them floating in space. Occasionally, one of them (or a piece of one) will collide with the Earth's atmosphere, and it will burn up as a meteor.
We don't know when the next big asteroid strike on earth will be. But we are sure it will happen. Sooner or later. There will always be a number of predictions out there as regards when we'll get hit again, but until you hear it from a group of astronomers who have done their homework, it would be wise not to worry too much about it. Oh, and those "seers" who say one is coming? They'll be passing the hat or otherwise expecting payment. Little rocks from space hit the earth all the time. But the history of the earth clearly shows that every once in a while, a very large rock from space slams into us. The damage is so great that large numbers of individual plants and animals are wiped out. Additionally, whole groups of species are killed off indirectly in the aftermath of the collision, and this owing to the damage to the biosphere the blast causes. We think the dinosaurs were terminated as a result of the effects of such a blast. We are starting to look for these near earth objects now. We've got extra eyes on the skys to see if we can spot them. We're crunching numbers all the time on rocks we spot to see if any are coming uncomfortably close. But we haven't seen the next big one with our name on it. Yet.In fact, many asteroids hit the earth every year! Most of them are small enough to burn up in the atmosphere though, and the few that reach the surface are too small to cause significant damage so there is no reason to worry.Big asteroids that can significantly damage our environment or kill many people, plants and animals do hit the planet from time to time, but the chances that we would not see it coming many years before and send up a rocket to "nudge it out of the way" are really really low.No, ateroids will hit earth when toilets fly!
They may both vary in sizes but are smaller than a planet. There are a lot of them. They hit large objects like planets, moons or stars often.
Meteor. Meteorites are the ones that do hit Earth.
It is possible for comets and asteroids to hit Earth, but they are extremely rare events.
No. Asteroids can hit anywhere on earth.
make big holes in the earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gravity.
An asteroid would hit earth first
Asteroids will hit earth every now and then because of the earths gravitational pull, but we don't get as much as Jupiter seeing as it has the highest gravitation pull.
because of earths gravitational pull. why, did you thinkthey hit earth because of cabbages?
mars
i dont think so
Well they do not die, they get destroyed when they hit earth......
Asteroids have hit the Earth that have brought about the extinction of nearly every animal and many of the plants on earth.
Asteroids hit earth because when asteroids are floating because of the gravity when it goes out of gravity it floats to earth and hits earth. And please be helpful and click if it was helpful or not and then flag it if there was something wrong and thank you.
