Possible disadvantages of coeducation might be in situations, such as Gym and swim classes, where students have to change apparel. This is remedied by gender-discreet facilities, i.e. separate locker-rooms. It is going out of warp to use this possible trouble zone to condemn an educational practice that has been standardized since the early years of the last century. The popular songs- both written around l902-06 (School Days) and more to the point- (East Side, West Side)- originally entitled the Sidewalks of New York.= both acknowledge that ( Boys and Girls together) was S.O.P. yet Brooklyn had some grim- armory-looking establishments with separate entrances for ( boys) and ( Girls) I can see this in (Youth Houses) but that is a correctional-penal atmosphere. The counter-argument can be made- and this was true up to when I was confirmed in l967 ( it seems like l9ll!) Sunday School and other religious classes above about the third grade- were gender discrete. It can be argued Boys and Girls have different types of Spiritual problems, as they have different life-styles, interests in sports, shop classes, et al. I'll have to give the churchmen the benefit of the doubt here. However, Sunday schools were, as the name applies once a week, not a regular six-hour tour.

I study in a co-education university. In my class there are about 30 girls and 30 boys. We learn many things one another in the course of being in the same class. Sometimes the interaction is pleasant and sometimes not. In other words co-education has its good points and bad points, that is, its advantages and disadvantages.

The main advantage that I can see is that we learn that boys are different from girls in many ways. In short, we learn how to handle each other. Boys tend to be more physical, while girls are for gentler. However this is not a universal rule, for tom-boys do exist in our class and they pack a harder wallop than some sissies who also exist in our class. Anyone learns that the two sexes behave generally in fixed manners although there are exceptions.

The one big disadvantage about having boys and girls in the same class is when we go for physical education. Boys and girls just cannot do the same type of exercise or play the same game together. So we need to have two teachers, one for the boys and one for the girls.

The churchmen, who are notorious for extreme conservatism on the classroom level, long have fought co-education. A variety of weapons were used- there were and are single-sex schools- such as St. Peter's Prep ( male high school), St. Domenic"s academy ( female high school) and so on. Even in the Co-ed schools there are certain boundaries lines, like ( Flatliners" slogan went- that should not be crossed. Many high schools , especially Church-run types , while nominally Co-ed are and were administered essentially like a plant divided into two watches ( working tours of , in this case, students) who had little or no contact with each other. There were sometimes even separate administrative officers- such as Vice Principals, for the Boys and Girls! Big walls ran down the centers of the building, suggesting some sort of prison or maybe storage shed for hazardous materials. the idea seemed to be ingrained that Boys and Girls in the same classroom would inevitably ( Ignite) some sort of Sex Riot- which never did happen to my knowledge! tHE CHURCHMEN called their gender-segregated ( both genders, but the boundaries are as thick as the China wall, ) Co-institutional schools. The whole subject matter was simply ( Ignored-off-base ) by the relatively few situation comedies, etc that did dip into academic settings, such as Archie Andrews, Riverdale High was co-ed, as are most such institutions in popular entertainmentl. the Churchman are in a walled-out well, containment facililty! In my day, Sunday schools ( but only a couple of hours at most in a week) were gender discreet- but that is something else.

Disadvantages

There is a belief that by sending a child to a single sex school they can get away from the gender stereotypes that are typically seen in a co-educational learning atmosphere. Some of these stereotypes are placed on the students by society, others by facility, classmates, and themselves. William Pollack, in his book Real Boys: Rescuing Our Sons From the Myths of Boyhood, writes "In girls' schools, it is plain to see that some girls are poets, some are athletes. Some are historians or mathematicians, some are scientists or sculptors. Stereotypes about "acceptable" roles simply do not apply." (What about Boys) By eliminating these gender based stereotypes the students are free to learn without worrying about the labels being placed on them.

In conclusion the advantages and disadvantages of attending a single sex school or co-educational school are now being looked into more closely when the decision is being made on which environment is best for a child to learn. Each school environment has pros and cons to offer the student. What is important is that the right learning environment is selected based on the one student and how they learn. When a student is not placed in the right learning environment for them they can begin to fall behind the rest of the class. It is important to keep in mind that neither learning environment has yet to show that is the best learning environment for all children to be taught in. This is why the question "Is a single sex school or a mixed school the best learning environment for my child?" is been asked more and more recently. but as a advantage they would able to know how to behave and the difference between them.

AnswerI believe that the disadvantages associated with single-sex education far outweigh the advantages.

Once upon a time, women-only schools were the only way for a woman to get an education and some degree of freedom and respect. However, most of those traditional reasons are now null and void.

By the way, women-only universities admit men to their graduate programs as well as having men as teachers.

Disadvantages of Single-Sex Education: does not teach the sexes how to interact in a healthy fashion, limited views and perspectives, possible lack of emotional maturity, can foster prejudices against the other gender, does not teach people take responisbility for their sexuality/chastity

Advantages of Single-Sex Education: no sexual harassment, no gender-based descrimination, no possibility of distraction by members of the opposite sex, chastity

Disadvantages of Co-Education: possibility of sexual harassment, possible distraction by members of the opposite sex, possibility of sexual relationships

Advantages of Co-Education: healthy interaction between the sexes, education about different views and perspectives, teaches how to deal with members of the opposite sex and to live in the real-world, teaches students to define their own sexual boundaries which they are likely to keep

Co-education (combined by gender) has always been a heated question, especially in India. The arguments for or against go an endlessly. But much of hue and cry raised prevents a sensible understanding of the matter.

MEN and WOMEN are of the same species. The two have always been together, even though the roles of the two genders have never been equally shared.

However, education should be fairly and equally offered regardless of gender. The idea that one has been created for the other, or is superior, is not reasonable.

EDUCATION is not just bookish knowledge. Social contact and understanding of the opposite sex is necessary for the growth of the mind. It makes people worldly wise, and only co-education can make this a real possibility.

The modern concept of equality between men and women has brought remarkable change in societies, as members of either sex still struggle to co-exist with those of the opposite sex. Societies need to bridge the gap, rather than simply understanding gender differences, the concept that "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus.

Advantages:

  • under co-education, girls and boys are less shy of each other
  • co-education improves pupils' confidence to interact with the opposite gender
  • co-education pupils have more competitive minds than non coeducation pupils
  • co-education pupils are much more helpful to each other
  • co-education pupil form strong friendship bonds
